Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, City University; Sehome High School graduate.
Community Service:
Board member, 11 years, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation; current president, Whatcom Business Alliance board; board member, Northwest Construction Consumer Council; board member, National Electrical Contractors Association; financially support numerous local nonprofits, including Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County, United Way of Whatcom County and Whatcom Hospice Foundation.
Statement:
The Port of Bellingham is the economic driver of Whatcom County. We need it to play a bigger role in attracting industrial companies and high-paying jobs in Whatcom County, especially in the aftermath of a pandemic and the closure of Alcoa Intalco Works.
Intalco’s closure led to 700 Whatcom County residents losing good jobs and affected countless contractors, suppliers and nonprofit organizations. Without an operating business on the property, its lower tax valuation will affect schools, local governments and other taxpayers. Given the industrial zoning and port at the former Intalco site, the Port of Bellingham should be actively working to attract another company. A lifelong Whatcom County resident, I know we can’t let it stand idle for decades as we did in Bellingham when Georgia-Pacific closed.
Port of Bellingham commissioners must continue to strongly support our local fishermen and maritime businesses. They quietly play an integral role in our local economy.
We need commissioners to promote a strong and environmentally conscious economy. I’d work hard to keep Whatcom County an ideal place for families. I’d be honored to receive your vote for John Huntley for Port of Bellingham commissioner.
The District 1 identification is misleading now that we are passed the Primary.
Why won’t he state his party affiliation?
All County races in this election are non-partisan with no party affiliation required.
As a community, we could never find a better person than John Huntley for this position. He is goal-oriented and possesses all of the needed qualities including Ability, Experience, Devotion & Integrity. If one looks at his track-record, you’ll find that John has a long history of successful accomplishments!
We need John Huntley more than John Huntley needs this position!
John will always get my vote. Integrity to say the least.
