When it comes to politics, some subjects have been too taboo to discuss on both sides of the political isle: Election Integrity is one.
The concern has been, if we discuss election problems, voters aren’t going to turn out. But the truth is Election Integrity has been a major priority for Washingtonians for a number of years, with the Republican State Convention in 2024 showing Election Integrity as a top concern for Conservatives across the State. In Whatcom County, Be Brave Washington focused on local elections from 2021-2024, working to track the Election system with voter input. Through our research, we discovered that ballots are mailed from outside Whatcom County. We also discovered that several ballot boxes were not being managed securely along with many ballots being mis-marked as where they were being received. (All ballots coming into the Auditors office and from the Courthouse parking lot were being marked as being received by Mail in 2022) Since then, we have uncovered that voter rolls aren’t being cleaned up, ballots are not being mailed to some voters on time, and more.
For those of us old enough to remember, voting in-person was a much clearer way of ensuring election integrity. First, I would show my I.D. and a clerk at the front would check my name was on the list of registered voters for my area, then they would mark my name so I could only receive 1 ballot. I would go into a voting booth, mark my ballot privately, seal it and deliver it to the sealed ballot box inside the voting center, thereby ensuring security of my vote from start to finish. With our current system, the Auditor has no way of knowing if non-citizens are voting. She has no way of knowing how many ballots are actually mailed, to where, and in what time-frame. There is no way to ensure my ballot is secure in my mailbox and if I am dropping it off at the Auditors office, there is no way to know it was received by the Auditor because it’s improperly checked in. In the last election, many ballots had their return envelope glued shut (due to them getting wet?). The Auditor instructed voters to just tape it shut before returning. How many ballots were received taped shut? Were they all assumed to be legitimate, untampered ballots? This type of situation wouldn’t happen if we voted in person.
According to the Heritage Foundation, Washington ranks 54 for Election Integrity.
We are failing, folks, and it’s time to take back our Election system to protect it from foreign interests.  Some Washington State legislators are working hard to support Election Integrity.
